Frequently Asked Questions

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is the stimulation, by insertion of needles, of specific points on the body which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions. Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural pain-relieving neurohormones. Acupuncture affects the functioning of the hormonal system, promotes a decrease in inflammation, increased circulation and relief from pain.

what should i wear to my appointment?

At your appointment, we may need to access areas under your clothes, but we will properly drape you so that only small portions of skin are exposed. However, we do recommend wearing loose clothing so that sleeves can be rolled up above the elbows and pant legs can be pulled up above the knees.

Is Acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture is usually a very comfortable treatment. Needles are very fine, metallic and as thin as a hair, making them quite painless upon insertion. Everyone experiences acupuncture differently, but most feel no pain or very minimal pain as the needles are inserted. You may experience a mild aching sensation or warmth around the needle site.

what is cupping?

Cupping is a therapy in which glass cups are applied to the skin along the meridians of the body, creating suction as a way of stimulating the flow of energy.

Why does my acupuncturist look at my tongue?

Tongue and pulse diagnosis are two of the more important diagnostic tools in Chinese medicine. They are both used to derive a TCM diagnosis for your condition which is used to plan your treatment.

What activities should I avoid following acupuncture treatment?

Strenuous physical activities (including exercise) should be avoided for at least two hours after treatment.

Does Acupuncture treat...?

If you can complain about it, acupuncture can treat it.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Samantha will complete intake paperwork while you are in your Initial Appointment in the treatment room. Once there, you will sit down while Samantha runs through some questions with you. Each treatment is unique to each person, but you will be guided during the appointment.
